SOLD
Felted wool rug handmade by myself from an Icelandic sheep fleece. The sheep that grew this fleece lives on a small Croft in the Highlands of Scotland.
Important – Not Perfect Hence Sale Price
This is a lovely looking fleece but was already heavily felted when it was sheared, due to the harsh winter weather conditions in the Scottish Highlands. Once I had applied the felt backing and began to brush out the locks, I found lots of grass seeds in the fleece. No idea what this little sheep has been up to!
Anyway, the base of the fleece fibres is not as flat and smooth as I would like, due to the felting (and grass seeds) that had already happened while the sheep was still wearing it.
I have spent many hours trying to brush out all of the grass seeds, but some remain. Rather than not listing this rug, I thought I would offer it at a very reduced price. If it was perfect, if there is such a thing as perfect for a natural product, it would be priced at £100.
It is a good looking rug and is nice and thick, just a bit lumpy and bumpy in the felt base.
Or, it would make a lovely pet bed, as long as it is going to be kept fairly clean. It will withstand a cool, gentle wool wash, but won’t hold up to regular washing, as it is wool.
