Icelandic Vegetarian Sheepskin Rug

The Icelandic sheep is a hardy resilient little sheep that were introduced to Iceland by the Vikings. They have a long silky fleece which is light weight and extremely warm.

This particular rug is made from a fleece from an Icelandic sheep that lives in Scotland. The fleece is predominantly a creamy white colour with some apricot coloured locks around the edges.

The fleece is soft and thick with long wavy locks and a soft warm base. It makes a beautiful little rug.

I have hand felted a wool backing onto the fleece, made using British white Jacob wool, which I find makes a nice strong backing.
