Vegetarian Sheep Skin Rug

The fleece I used to make this rug came from the 2018 summer shearing from a small flock of pedigree Gotland sheep, who live in Essex, UK.

Felted fleece rugs are also known as vegetarian sheep skin rugs, or vegan rugs, as they are made from sheep fleece, that has been clipped from the sheep in the summer to keep it cool. There is no skin, the backing is made from felted wool, which is 100% British Shetland wool. The sheep that grew this fleece is still alive and living a happy life in a small well cared for flock.

Gotland sheep need to have their fleeces sheared twice a year, as the fleece felts easily and can cause welfare issues if not clipped regularly.

This fleece is various tones of grey in colour. It is very soft with lots and lots of beautiful shiny curls. This rug really needs to be seen close up to appreciate it’s beauty.

Measurements
This rug measures approx 170cm long, 90cm wide at the widest part, 70cm wide at the narrowest part.

This wool rug is unique and is completely handmade, by me, using only 100% British wool.

Please note that this is a natural handmade product, made from an actual sheep fleece, it may still have some bits of grass / vegetable matter hiding in it!  It may shed a bit of wool. Each fleece is different, some shed more than others.
