Description
Fleece Rug Made from Natural Sheep Fleece – Unknown Breed
The fleece that was used to make this rug came from the 2018 shearing from a local farm in Kenilworth, Warwickshire. The flock of sheep is a small flock of 40 sheep, owned by a friend of mine. Each year the sheep have to be sheared to remove their heavy winter fleeces, or they would overheat in the summer.
This fleece is just off white in colour and is thick and fluffy. The locks are medium length and have a lovely wavy crimp.
These rugs are also known as vegetarian rugs, as they are made from sheep fleece, that has been clipped from the sheep in the summer to keep it cool. There is no skin, the backing is made from felted wool, which is 100% British Shetland wool.
Backing measures approx 90cm x 104cm. Locks overhang the backing by a few cm.
This rug is unique and is completely handmade using only 100% British wool.
Please note that this is a natural handmade product, made from an actual sheep fleece, it may still have some bits of grass / vegetable matter hiding in it! It may shed a bit of wool. Each fleece is different, some shed more than others.
