Wool fleece rug, handmade by myself from a Scottish Blackface sheep fleece. The fleece is from the 2018 shearing and the sheep that grew this fleece, lives on a farm in the Scottish Highlands. The rug looks like a sheep skin rug, but it has no skin, just 100% pure British Wool. The felted backing is made from British Shetland wool.

The rug is made from a whole fleece and is approx 115cm by 80cm. The fleece is off white and is slightly course. It may shed a little as it is a natural product.

Wool Rug Care Instructions

This wool rug can be carefully washed in cool water, with a wool wash product. Gentle hand wash only, do not wring. Wrap in a towel to remove excess water, then dry flat away from direct heat.

This sheep fleece rug can be brushed gently.

Vegetarian Sheepskin Rugs

These rugs are also known as vegetarian sheepskin rugs, as they look like a sheepskin rug. Actual sheepskin rugs are made from the hide (skin and fleece) of a dead sheep. Felted fleece rugs like this one are made from a sheared fleece and have a felted wool backing applied using a process of wet felting. Sheep are sheared every summer to keep them cool and protect against fly strike.

My rugs are made from 100% pure British Wool only. The felting process is completely manual, involving natural soap, hot water and a lot of elbow grease!
